These remote locations offer stunning views and peaceful environments far from crowded tourist routes.
The final day is dedicated to exploring Machu Picchu itself. After reaching Aguas Calientes, travelers enter the archaeological sanctuary early in the morning for a guided tour of its temples, terraces, and ceremonial spaces, learning about the fascinating history of this legendary site.
Picked up from stay at 4:30 am, ride four hours to start at Capuliyoc town. Along, stop at Sayhuite Inca place, big rock with shapes and critter carvings, seen as map for water channels round there. After good morning eat, meet walk crew and head to big “missing Inca towns.” First four hours down to Chickiska, starting high then into warmer Apurimac dip. Midday served by walk cook with local fresh stuff. Next bit 2.5 hours up to camp at Santa Rosa town.
Man, that downhill felt endless. But views shift quick, got me pumped!
Morning eat done, start toughest chunk. Walk four-hour switchback up to Marampata, midday ready with great peak sights and loads of plants, animals. After midday, two more hours to Choquequirao Inca Place. Afternoon, wander and catch sunset. Camp close to old spot.

Check old fields, then two hours more down. Camp at Rio Blanco (1880 m / 6167 ft) – Pack solid bug spray.
Bugs everywhere, annoying. But river sound soothed.
Morning eat over, keep trekking; first four hours hard switchback up to Maizal (2891m / 9488 ft.). Midday earned, then steep four hours up to camp at Pajonal (4000m /13124ft). See farm patches, local greens, birds, old Victoria digs.
Climb killed me, intense push. Views paid off big.
Morning eat, walk one hour to San Juan Pass (4210m/135549). Top reached, soak peak sights; three hours down to Yanama town (3700m /12139ft). Midday, wave off animal handlers, ride to Lucmabamba (2100m/6890ft. Night at coffee grower’s home.

Sights done, down to hydroelectric for midday, then three hours walk, last along tracks to Aguas Calientes. Night in Stay at Aguas Calientes.
View stunned me. Doubt if better exists.

Guided after, time alone or extra walk to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu peak (Separate from Inca City). Afternoon, Vistadome view train back to Cusco.
