It begins with a scenic drive from Cusco to the trailhead at KM 82 (Piscacucho), where you start hiking along the Urubamba River valley. Day one introduces you to gentle terrain, passing the Inca site of Llactapata (Patallacta) before reaching the first campsite at Ayapata or Wayllabamba area after about 12-14 km of walking.

Day two is the most demanding, with a steep ascent to the highest point at Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215 m), followed by a descent into the Pacaymayu valley and another climb over the Runkurakay Pass. Along the way, you explore impressive ruins such as Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, and Chaquiqocha, surrounded by changing ecosystems from high alpine tundra to cloud forest.

First day easy, 3 hour walk past towns to Llactapata Inca spot. See Willkaraqay Inca group, nice Patallacta view from overlook. Then 1 hour to Hatunchaca town, chefs make fresh meal.
