Tambopata offers a unique combination of adventure, education, and relaxation. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, wildlife photographer, or simply looking for a unique travel experience, the Amazon rainforest provides unforgettable moments.
In just three days, this tour offers an authentic immersion into the jungle, where every sound, movement, and landscape reveals the richness of the Amazon ecosystem.
Your Amazon adventure begins as we meet you at the Puerto Maldonado airport or your hotel. At our office in town, we’ll help you repack and safely store any extra luggage before beginning your trip deep into the Tambopata jungle.
We travel about 1 hour by minivan along the Interoceanic Highway, followed by a 30-minute drive along a rustic forest road to reach the Philadelphia River Port. From here, a 30-minute motorboat ride on the Tambopata River takes us to your lodge — a comfortable eco-retreat surrounded by lush rainforest.
You’ll be welcomed with a refreshing tropical drink and enjoy your first Amazonian lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, take a guided walk through the surrounding forest, where you can spot monkeys, wild pigs, and colorful birds while your naturalist guide introduces you to the forest’s medicinal plants and giant trees.
After dinner, join a night walk or river outing in search of black and white caimans along the riverbanks — a thrilling introduction to the nocturnal life of the Amazon.
🛏 Overnight at Collpas Inn Lodge or similar.
Rise early around 5:00 a.m. for the highlight of your jungle journey — the world-famous Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho.” A 1.5-hour boat ride up the Tambopata River offers excellent chances to spot wildlife such as capybaras, caimans, herons, toucans, and, with luck, even a jaguar resting on the riverbanks.
Arriving at the clay lick, you’ll enjoy breakfast right in front of this natural spectacle. Watch hundreds of macaws and parrots — red-and-green, blue-and-yellow, and scarlet macaws — descend in a colorful explosion of wings and sound as they feed on the mineral-rich clay that aids their digestion.
After spending the morning observing the macaws, return by boat to the lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, enjoy another river exploration or a forest walk, searching for capuchin and howler monkeys, giant kapok trees, and exotic bird species. At dusk, you may join an optional night hike to spot frogs, tarantulas, and other nocturnal creatures.
🛏 Overnight at Collpas Inn Lodge.
After an early breakfast, take a final nature walk to a nearby oxbow pond, a peaceful habitat for herons, hoatzins, and sometimes giant river otters. You’ll then travel back by boat and vehicle to Puerto Maldonado, arriving in time for your flight or bus connection.
Your unforgettable journey through the Tambopata National Reserve ends here, filled with memories of vibrant wildlife and serene rainforest landscapes.
