Carefully curated tips from our local Cusco mountain guides and travel advisors to ensure you travel safely, pack smartly, and enjoy the journey of a lifetime.
Altitude & Acclimatization
Cusco sits at 3,400m (11,150ft). Plan 48 hours of relaxed pacing, hydrate with local muña/coca herbal infusions, and avoid heavy meals on arrival day.
When to Visit
Dry season runs from May through September (sunny blue skies, cold Andean nights). Rainy season peaks in January-February (Inca Trail is closed for maintenance in Feb).
Packing Essentials
Dress in layers: moisture-wicking base, fleece insulator, waterproof jacket, sturdy broken-in hiking boots, UV sunglasses, and sunscreen SPF 50+.
Currency & Etiquette
Peruvian Sol (PEN) is widely used. Carry small cash notes for village artisans and restrooms. Always ask permission before photographing native villagers.
